Prices Set To Increase For 2022

Since its beginning, The Human Potential Running Series has been a trail and ultrarunning series where one of our focuses has been on the accessibility of events like ours, regardless of one’s socio-economic status. In other words, we believe that registering to run an ultra shouldn’t cost an arm, a leg, and/or your first born. There have been some years where we have not raised our rates; even a 3 year stretch at one point where our rates either fell or stayed the same.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, we kept our community in mind first, offering our 100% Covid guarantee. This guarantee states that should any of our events be cancelled due to a Covid-19 related reason, registrants would enjoy a 100% Credit of their entry fees paid for up to 2 years from the original race date. We went on to becoming the only major race series on the planet without a single cancellation over the last 2 years, and the policy is still in place.

Still, we recognized that not everyone may have been comfortable attending our in-person events in 2020 with the pandemic raging on. We took steps to offer partial, and at times full, credits and deferrals to those who choose their own health, safety, and comfort over the opportunity to log a few miles in a race.

All of this is to say that as we forged ahead in to 2021, we did not raise any of our rates for races in our series. Other events around us raised their rates the standard $10-$20 over the previous year, while others implemented an uncharacteristic $30-$40 increase over the previous year’s rates. HPRS has always prided itself on pricing our events at, or below, the industry average for similar distances within the markets which we operate. While we are raising our rates for 2022, we are proud to announce that our pricing will remain at or below the industry averages.

Before we get in to what our pricing structure will look like in 2022, we want to remind you of the many ways that you can save on your race registration fees at HPRS:

  • For participating in a trail work day with HPRS, of which we typically hold 5-6 each year, you will earn a complimentary race entry to use on an HPRS race of your choice. Your comp entry is good for one (1) race under 100-Miles in length, for up to 1-year from the date in which you earn it. [Note: We ask that for 100-milers you utilize 2 trail work comps, or 1 for 50% off. For our 200-Miler, we ask for three (3) comps, or two (2) for 50% off.]
  • We pay race volunteers in race credits earned through hours worked. We offer one of the most generous volunteer programs in the sport today, where you earn $10-$20/hr in HPRS Credits for time served. Course Marking, Course Sweeping, and Medical Support all pay $20/hr. Everything else pays $10/hr. For time worked between the hours of 10p and 6a, we automatically pay $20/hr regardless of position. If you volunteer for more than 8-hours at an HPRS event, we provide a $40 bonus. Some races we ask for shuttle drivers, and those drivers all earn a comp entry through their efforts. Credits can be spent on HPRS races, in our online store, and on yearly memberships. They expire one year from the date on which they are earned.
  • You can become an HPRS Member ($40/yr) and automatically save 10% off on all of your HPRS Race Registrations.
  • Members who participate in our yearly Fat Ass Series, can increase their race registration discount up to 25% off for the year.
  • During our annual RegFest event (Dec. 4th) Non-HPRS Members will save 10% off race registrations during the 3.5 hour show window, while current members will save 25% off race registrations during this window.
  • You can purchase a 3-Pack of races on RunSignup.Com, and save 5% off each race. You can buy a 4-pack of races and save 10% off each race, or a 5-Pack of races to save 15% off each race. You can also register for our transcendence series (6 races – distances predetermined) to save 20% off each race.
  • We offer a 20% discount to the men and women of our armed services. This discount is open to all active duty, retired, and veteran servicemen and women.
  • We offer a comp entry to a future race for those who come in DFL in each distance at each HPRS event.
  • Following successful registration for one of our events via RunSignUp.com, you will receive a receipt for your purchase via email. In that receipt is a link assigned specifically to you. If 5 of your friends register for the same event using your specific link, HPRS will refund you $20 of your entry fee. If 10 of your friends register for the same event using your specific link, HPRS will send you an HPRS Trucker Hat on top of the $20 you’ll receive at 5 friends.

This year was the very first time we ever heard a runner complain about our rates, stating that they are “too expensive,” even though our rates have remained below the industry average and the many ways in which you can save outlined above. We truly believe that as a race series we have gone above and beyond in facilitating ways for every one of you to save on the cost of entry, simply by giving back.

Ultimately, HPRS is a business. We do try very hard to follow our guiding principle of “People Over Profit,” while also being conscious and fair towards the future preservation of our business, and mindful of our operating costs. No one can argue about the reality of rising costs of… well, everything. Some may have you believe that the cost of hosting races has increased thousands of dollars over last year. Merely “Hundreds” is a more accurate representation of that reality, but to be fair we also have no idea where the ceiling on the cost of doing business will ultimately rest.

In 2022, HPRS will be raising our rates the standard $10-$20 from the previous year, with a notation that this is an increase from our 2020 rates, which were also our 2021 rates. Below is a snapshot of what our rates will be, and how they compare to the 2021 Colorado Average entry fees for the same distance. The Colorado average is based on 2021 entry fees around the state, and does not account for any increases of our competitors, which will of course raise the average a bit further in 2022. We have also listed the lowest, and highest, prices for each distance by tier for reference.
