2020 Niwot’s Challenge Postponed

On Monday, April 6, 2020 Colorado Governor Jared Polis extended the state of Colorado’s Stay-At-Home order through at least April 26th. With the Niwot’s Challenge scheduled for April 18th, HPRS has decided to postpone the event to Saturday, May 30th.

The Niwot’s Challenge is known as “The Barkley of the West,” and is modeled after the famed race in Tennessee. Thirty participants are provided a map with the locations of 18 books, that they must seek out and verify having been there by ripping out a page. 48 Miles in length with 40,000′ of elevation change, the Niwot’s challenge is a considerably challenging course some have said is “mile-for-mile as tough, if not tougher, than the Barkley.”

“DNF is what most folks do at Niwot’s and in our community we say it’s an acronym for Did Nothing Fatal,” said HPRS and Niwot’s race director John Lacroix. “We’re going to take our time. We’re going to do our part by following the directions of our state and local governments so that we do nothing fatal. We’ll run another day, and I know these Nitwits will be ready for it. Niwot’s isn’t the most important thing right now. The health and safety of our community is.”
