South Park Postponed to August – Remaining Summer Events ON!

I have decided in partnership with the Town of Fairplay, that the best course of action is to postpone the date of the 2020 South Park Trail Marathon & Half to Saturday, August 1st.

While I share in the enthusiasm of many others that life will soon begin to return to a new normal, we all need to take a collective deep breath and realize that our new normal will not happen all at once. I have made every effort to try and host our race as scheduled on its original date. At this time I cannot fulfill my duties as a race director in ensuring the health and safety of all involved should the event happen as originally scheduled.

The Town of Fairplay, Mayor and Board of Trustees, met on Monday May 4th to discuss hosting events within town limits during the upcoming summer season. While the Town of Fairplay has elected to cancel all town hosted events, including the 72nd Burro Days, they are amenable to allowing HPRS to host our annual summer series on our July and August Dates. This means that the South Park Trail Marathon is moved to Saturday, August 1st and will coincide with the Sheep Mountain Endurance Runs (50-mile & 50k), which will happen as scheduled. The Silverheels 100-Mile Endurance Run will happen as scheduled on July 11-12th, and the Last Call 50-Mile Endurance Run will happen as scheduled on July 12th with a midnight start. We hope to see you in Fairplay this summer as we return to running!

Registered Runners Have The Following Options:

  • Stay registered for South Park Trail Marathon or Half to be held on August 1st (No Action Required)
  • Receive a 100% transfer credit/deferral towards South Park Trail Marathon & Half 2021 (Email Required)
  • Receive a 75% transfer credit towards any of our other races through November 30, 2022 (Email Required)
  • Withdraw from the event, but allow HPRS to retain your registration fees as a donation towards the preservation of our small business. (Email Required)

Anyone wishing to take advantage of options 2 or 3 will need to email [email protected] with your decision BEFORE 12:00am ON JUNE 1ST. I will take care of you on the back end of Ultrasignup in accordance with your decision. No response is necessary for those wishing to stay in the event for August 1st. All decisions will be final as of 12:00am June 1, 2020.

On June 1st, our standard refund and credit policies will return to normal status for this event. Meaning, anyone wishing to withdraw from the event from June 1st or later will be subject to all regular HPRS refund and credit policies. There will be no exceptions despite the circumstances.

I will begin extending invites to runners on the wait list for this event immediately. Runners will be invited in the order they were entered to the wait list. They will each have 24-hours to respond to their invite to complete registration for the new August 1st date. The wait list will be emptied at this time.

Registration will be reopened for the August 1st running of this event immediately, and at the last tier pricing. Should the event be sold out, we’ll be accepting runners to the wait list. If space is available, we will accept registrations until filled, and then return to a wait list. Should the August 1st date be cancelled for any reason, additional guidance will be provided at that time.

I am ever excited about returning to hosting our calendar of events starting with The Silverheels 100-Mile Endurance Run and Last Call 50-Mile Endurance Run scheduled for the weekend of July 11-12th in Fairplay, CO.

I want to thank our community of runners for their patience and support during this trying time. I, like you, cannot wait to get back to being together on the trails. The sport of trail and ultra running will look different when we get back to it. There will be a new normal that has to be implemented to ensure the continued health and safety of runners, volunteers, local communities, and the preservation of our sport as we know it. I thank you in advance for your continued patience and support and want you to know that I am here for you also. We encourage our entire community of runners to continue to move in that one direction we all know… FORWARD.

We love you.
