A Look Ahead To When We Return

This week we’ve received word that, so long as our state continues on the current track of recovery, we’ll be allowed to host our events in Fairplay this summer. We continue to work alongside all land managers, and interested parties, to secure our permits for these events. Since 2015, HPRS has hosted 3 events over the 3 summer months in Fairplay. The are as follows:

June: South Park Trail Marathon & Half
July: Silverheels 100-Mile and Last Call 50-Mile Endurance Runs
August: Sheep Mountain Endurance Runs 50-Mile & 50k

We suggested, and have ultimately been asked, to move our June event to the same date as our August event.  Therefore, the South Park Trail Marathon & Half, originally scheduled for 6/6, has been moved to August 1st. It will coincide with The Sheep Mountain Endurance Runs being held on the same day. Obviously, Sheep Mountain is being held as scheduled. Registration for both events is now open. Should any runner have previously registered for both South Park and Sheep Mountain, please reach out to us for options specific to your case. Otherwise, all registered runners in the South Park Trail Marathon and Half have been notified of their options moving forward due to the postponement.

The Silverheels 100-Mile Endurance Run will take place as scheduled on July 11-12th. The Last Call 50-Mile will take place as scheduled on July 12th with a midnight start. Registration remains open for both of these events. All trail work days in Fairplay will also be held as scheduled on June 7th, July 10th, and August 2nd. There is a volunteer requirement associated with The Silverheels 100 that I will discuss further below.

HPRS’ Social Integration Strategy

As we begin to return to running together, there are a number of things that are going to be very different from what was once considered “normal.” I have devised a plan that while fluid in nature, provides us with a better look in to what directives we will take in returning to hosting events. None of this is optional, or debatable, if you wish to run with HPRS in the foreseeable future. This is the plan moving forward. Those who choose to debate these decisions will be banned from HPRS events moving forward. Those who arrive on race day without every intention to follow these directives will not be allowed to run, and will be listed as either a DNS or a DQ dependent on the situation.

I want to stress that we have to take every effort necessary to be mindful of the health and safety of not just our runners, but also that of our staff, volunteers, and the local communities we are privileged to run from and through. No plan will be perfect. Every plan you’ll see in the coming weeks and months will be carefully crafted in cooperation of RDs, their land managers, and local communities. Over time, some of the directives will thankfully go away, while others are likely to be added. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and cooperation.

Volunteer Requirements FOR SILVERHEELS 100-MILE RUNNERS:

We are not doing away with this requirement and it is still required to participate in the Silverheels 100-Mile (ONLY). Again, you can perform the 8-hours of volunteer service or go with a “buy-out” option of $150… but I am making some changes.

  • The volunteer requirement deadline is now extended through Friday, July 10th. This means any 8-hours of work performed through the day before the race will count.
  • You can volunteer at ANY race. Ultra, Marathon, 5k, 10k, Spartan Race, whatever. ANY race, 8 hours, submit your signed form.
  • You can volunteer for 8 hours at your local soup kitchen or homeless shelter and it will count towards this requirement.
  • You can go with the $150 “buy-out” of the requirement via check to our race’s beneficiary “2-Mile High Inc.”
  • You can go with the $150 “buy-out” of the requirement by providing me with a copy of your receipt for any donation(s) made, totaling $150, to any COVID-19 relief fund.

You do not need to email us at this time about any of the above. Just get it done, and email us when you are done. If you have not completed the volunteer requirement by race day, you will have to pay the $150 to “2-Mile High Inc” in order to receive your bib. Friends, 2-Mile High Inc relies on us as their biggest fundraiser of the year. I’ve given you a host of options here, that ultimately will affect 2-Mile High Inc. If you can, please consider directing your support towards them. Thank You.

I very much look forward to returning to hosting our events. I miss you. We all miss you. We all have a lot of work to do, on ourselves and through each other. We are continuing to prepare for our return to being together, on the trails, with the sun on our face and the wind in our hair. We can’t wait to see epic shots of you moving mountains. Things may not be what they were before, if ever again; but the same HPRS is here to continue our mission of providing you with opportunities to explore your Human Potential.

See you this summer!
