HPRS To Offer Registration Insurance Option

Arvada, CO – The Human Potential Running Series (HPRS), owned and operated by Human Potential LLC, is pleased to announce that the company will begin offering registration insurance starting with their Fall/Winter lineup of events. Runners registering for HPRS events will now have the option to insure their entry fees, at a nominal fee, through RunSignup.com and their partnership with Allianz Global Assistance the world leader in travel insurance, assistance and personal services. When registration opens on October 1, 2022 for the following events, it will begin a new era of registration fee protection at HPRS: Sawmill Trail Runs, Franklin Mountains Trail Runs, Stories Ultra, and The Cuchara Snowshoe Races. The remaining 2023 events will follow suit when registration opens on December 1, 2022.

During the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the running world was shocked by the immense number of event cancellations that took place as a result of the spreading virus. A majority of race directors and race production companies held firm on their “No Refunds” policies in the wake of the many cancellations. A lot of runners seemed in disbelief that “No Refunds” policies were actually the industry standard, and that race directors were indeed standing firm with their policy.

Two years later and many runners continue to email race directors requesting and even demanding a deferral or refund when they can no longer run a race (for any reason), even in the final hours leading up to race start, this despite each registrant being required to agree to a race’s No Refund/Deferral/Credit policies during registration. Registration Insurance Protection is the answer to each of these runner’s request for a refund or deferral.

Event registration insurance protects participants for 100% of their registration and processing fees for races that they are unable to attend for covered reasons. There is the basic registration protection, and the more expensive option that also covers a participant if they are Required to Work ($7.99 minimum vs. $8.99 minimum cost). HPRS has elected to offer the the more expensive registration protection during the registration process for their events.

While offering this insurance protection, HPRS will continue to maintain and implement all of their refund, deferral, and credit policies. All registrants will still be required to agree to HPRS’ policies at time of registration. These policies are available on the HPRS website at this address: https://humanpotentialrunning.com/race-policies/

With the opportunity to purchase event insurance, the onus is now on the registrant to insure their registration fees in the event they need to drop out from the event for any reason. Requesting a refund or deferral from HPRS or its directors will be met with a new standard response, “Did you purchase registration insurance for yourself?”

HPRS owner and race director John Lacroix states, “As an ultrarunner first and foremost, I myself have experienced the heartbreak of having to cancel a race registration for any number of reasons. I’ve been selected in a few lotteries over the years, only to have to back out of the event due to a wedding or graduation I didn’t know about or that was scheduled later. While I’ve never personally requested a refund, knowing full well what the refund policy is before registering for any event, it can be a tough pill to swallow when you realize you’ve just lost a few hundred dollars. I cannot even begin to place a number on the total refund requests I receive in a given year. It truly is extraordinary. Personal Responsibility and Personal Accountability is valued at the utmost at HPRS, and now our runners have another opportunity to put that into action by insuring their own registration fees in the event something comes up.”

How it works: Once event registration insurance is enabled by the Race Director for a race, a registrant will be offered an opportunity to purchase the insurance at check out. The Insurance offer is made below the checkout total. When clicked, the “Confirmation” button at the bottom is updated to show the cost. The details of the plan with Required to work is here. The link is also on the registration path.

Purchasing the insurance is a separate charge from the race registration and the purchase is made directly with Allianz Global Assistance.  The registrant only enters their credit card information once for both purchases (race registration and insurance). Once purchased the race registrant receives an email and plan directly from Allianz Global Assistance. Race organizers don’t take on any financial liability and don’t have to get involved with claims. Allianz Global Assistance handles all of the claims directly with insured registrants.
