The Highest 200-Miler in North America!

Can you travel 202 miles, on foot, in 108 hours?

We think you can! Here’s How It Works

This 200-Mile Ultra features a series of out-and-back segments designed to afford you ample opportunities for self-care and support at the same central location, as well as ample support along the course. The race starts and ends at Music Meadows Aid Station, where you are welcome to set up your own lodging option (sleep in your vehicle, tent, camper van, roof top tent, or camper trail <12′ in length) within a large field. The 8.8-Mile out and back to Music Pass and back takes place on a USFS Road, and a short segment of single track trail. The 43.2-Mile out and back to Venable Aid Station and back features the 100% Single & Double Track Rainbow Trail (Only wide enough for 1 ATV).

There are just two cut-offs for this event: The final cut-off of 4:00pm on Sunday, and a 10:30am cut-off on the same day where you must have started your final out and back to Music Pass by that time. That’s It!  Your game plan for tackling the 200-mile distance on your way to those cut-offs is entirely up to you. Treat it as a stage race with sleep stops each night. Power-hike it with minimal sleep. Stash a sleeping bag in your drop bag at Horn Creek and sleep out there under the stars. You just need to be at mile 193.6 by 10:30am Sunday (102h, 30min) where you’ll then tackle those 8 final miles by 4:00pm in order to become an official finisher and receive the coveted Sangre de Cristo 200-Mile Finisher’s Buckle.

The first 200-Mile ultra in the world (New England Ultras 200) was directed by our very own RD, John Lacroix, in November 2008. Join us in the distance he pioneered as we welcome the 200-mile distance to the HPRS schedule of races!

CAMPING: The land our start/finish line (Music Meadows aid station) is hosted on is private ranch land where we are privileged guests. We have been afforded the opportunity of TENT CAMPING ONLY for a nominal fee per site. This is in order to help minimize our impact on the resource the ranch owner relies on for their herd of cattle, and allows us to give back to those who’ve allowed us use of their beautiful land. The camping fee has been built into the entry fee for the 200-Miler, meaning.. you’ll automatically have a spot! HPRS is NOT erecting a “sleep station” for this event. Your sleeping quarters for the event is entirely on your own accord. Please email us at info@HumanPotentialRunning.com about camper vans, rooftop tents, or other options. They will be considered on a case-by-case and first come first served basis. You are welcome to have your own tent for sleeping at Music Meadows Aid Station throughout.

You will access this area at miles: 8.8, 52.1, 95.5, 104.2, 113, 156.3, 199.7 and 208.2

This 200-mile ultra is NOT for beginners. We consider it a graduate level run, and we feel that you should too! It is ultimately up to you to decide if you’re ready to face the challenge or not.

We highly encourage you to participate in one of HPRS’ other events in order to better familiarize yourself with our brand of ultra.

We also highly encourage you to complete at least one 100-mile ultra in the 365 days leading up to this event.

With all that said, there is no official race distance or time one must have completed in order to enter this event, and all comers are welcome. Entrants under the age of 18 are welcome and will be required to have their parent or legal guardian sign the waiver on their behalf AND their parent or legal guardian must be present (in attendance) throughout the entirety of the event.

HPRS reserves the right to deny service to any individual whom we feel their participation would negatively impact the event, HPRS as a whole, their own health and/or safety, and/or the health and/or safety of volunteers. We also reserve the right to deny service to those whom we feel are not adequately prepared for this type of undertaking. In other words.. Don’t be a jerk, run with us prior, and take seriously the idea of finishing a “mountain” 100-miler BEFORE you commit to this event.

Eight (8) hours of volunteer work is required for each participant prior to the event. All eight (8) hours must be completed while either performing trail construction or maintenance, or as a race volunteer at any official ultramarathon. The eight (8) hours of service must be certified by a representative from the organization you volunteered with. The eight (8) hours does NOT need to be with HPRS. The volunteer service must be performed between September 1, 2023 and August 31, 2024. Please download and complete the form below; it must be submitted by 11:59:59pm on September 1, 2024.

Those who choose not to complete the 8-hours of volunteer work may "Buy-Out" of this requirement during the registration process by paying a one time donation to Altitude Community Fitness (our event's benefactor) in the amount of $150. Those who do not submit their Volunteer Service Requirement Form by September 1st, will be required to go the buy-out route for entry into the event.

Volunteer Service Requirement Form (<Click Here to Download Form)

Should you decide to drop to any of our shorter distances at this event, HPRS will not issue any credits or refunds (full or partial) for the difference in price you’ve paid versus the price of the race you are dropping down to. Those dropping in distance forfeit the price difference in doing so. You may drop down in distance at any time up until race start.

Once you start the 200-mile, there is a mid-race drop down option at the 100-Mile mark. Those who wish to be done at 100-Miles will receive a finisher's award, 100-Mile finisher's buckle, and your name in the 100-mile results. There is no refund or credit (in full or partial) for utilizing the mid-race drop down.

Please note that the 200-Mile, 150-Mile, and 100-miler all have the 8-hour volunteer requirement; while the 100k, 50-mile, 50k, 27k, and 8-mile do not.

All HPRS refund/credit/and deferral policies are in full effect for this event. See our Events Policies Page for more details.

Event check-in will take place from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Tuesday night at the Start/Finish area.

There will be a mandatory in-person race meeting for 200-Milers at 7:30pm on Tuesday evening.

Held virtually during the week leading up to the event.

A NOTE ON CREWS/SPECTATORS: Due to access difficulty in the area, there will be crew and spectator access ONLY at the start/finish area (aka. Music Meadows Aid Station). Crews are only allowed to assist runner’s at the Start/Finish line aid station (Music Meadows). Here, Crews can access 200-mile runners at miles: 8.8, 52.1, 95.5, 104.2, 113, 156.3, 199.7 and 208.2

The Start/Finish area (Music Meadows Aid Station) is located adjacent to the Grape Creek Trailhead on Custer County Road 119 30-min south of Westcliffe, CO.

Why? The road to Colony Creek is an incredibly rough and very rocky road where a high clearance 4x4 vehicle is required for access, with no parking options for crews or spectators. The trailheads where Horn Creek and Venable aid stations are located are incredibly small trailheads, and it is a condition of our permit that we afford access to other trail users during our event. Simply put, there is no where for you to park anywhere else along the course and our permit prohibits crews and spectators elsewhere. This is non-negotiable.

Pacers are allowed to join runners, and may only jump in from the Start/Finish (Music Meadows Aid Station) at the following miles: 52.1, 95.5, 104.2, 113, 156.3, 199.7 and 208.2

All participants are allowed to have a drop bag at Music Meadows and Horn Creek aid stations. Drop bags should be dropped off on race morning prior to the start of your event. You are also allowed access to your car or tent as you pass through Music Meadows.

You are also welcome to leave a small tent and/or sleeping bag in your drop bags for Horn Creek in the event you decide to sleep at that location along your journey.

Please leave nothing of value in your bag. Do not leave your drop bag behind. All abandoned drop bags are disposed of immediately at the conclusion of the event.

All participants and spectators must park at the designated parking locations ONLY. A map of these areas will be available closer to the race.

All participants who complete their challenge will receive a Sangre de Cristo 200-Mile Finisher's Belt Buckle. We'll also present our DFL and Transcendence Awards. HPRS does not have a podium or age group awards, please see our Awards Page for more details.

NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED

This event is being held in accordance with permits from the U.S. Forest Service, San Isabel National Forest – San Carlos Ranger District. We ask that you please respect and care for the land this event is held on to help ensure the future of this race and to limit our environmental impact.

Any additional event information, changes, and updates will be sent to registered entrants ONLY via e-mail communication.
