Cuchara features distances of 50-Miles, 60k, 15-Miles, and 5-Miles in gorgeous Spanish Peaks Country of Huerfano County Colorado. This event features an amazing trail running adventure in a wilderness setting sandwiched between the eastern flank of The Southern Sangre De Cristo’s Culebra Range, and west of prominent and magnificent Spanish Peaks, all just north of Colorado’s border with New Mexico. This event features generous cut-offs to afford everyone ample opportunity to overcome the Adversity HPRS is known for, while enjoying the stunning views of this elevated area.

We have limited space available for TENT CAMPING ONLY at the start/finish line. Please check our camping page for more info. For this event we allow tent camping ONLY. You may sleep in your vehicle or camper van. No camping trailers, rooftop tents, or large RVs. Our incredibly limited space prohibits our ability to host these options.

We encourage participants to look into lodging and food options in the surrounding towns in order to support the local community and its economy. Nearby towns and their distance from the race venue are listed below.

La Veta: 14.6 Miles (25 min)

Walsenburg: 30.6 Miles (41 min)

Pueblo: 78.4 Miles (1hr 25min)

Trinidad: 53.9 Miles (1h 15min)

Fort Garland: 48.9 Miles (58 min)

The weather this time of year is incredibly unpredictable in the Colorado Mountains. This event could experience rain, snow, wind, hail, and/or thunderstorms. Temperatures could be unseasonably cold or unseasonably hot.

Event check-in will take place from 6p to 8p on Friday Night, and 4:00am - 6:30am on event morning at the Start/Finish area, Cuchara Mountain Park 1234 Panadero Ave, La Veta, CO 81055

Held virtually during the week leading up to the event.

Due to access difficulty in the area, this event does not permit spectators, crews, or pacers. All participants should plan to tackle the challenges of this event on their own. Spectators are welcome at the Start/Finish Line ONLY.

Drop Bags are welcome for 50-Mile and 60k runners only. You may have them at the Spring Creek, Forbes Park and Cuchara Mountain Park (S/F) aid stations. See the aid station chart for more info. Please leave nothing of value in your bag. Do not leave your drop bag behind. All abandoned drop bags are disposed of immediately at the conclusion of the event.

All participants and spectators must park at the designated parking locations ONLY. A map of these areas will be available closer to the race. 

All participants who complete their challenge will receive a unique finisher's award. We'll also present our DFL and Transcendence Awards. We will also literally crown the King & Queen of the Mountain with a sterling silver crown! HPRS does not have a podium or age group awards, please see our Awards Page for more details.

NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED

This event is being held in accordance with permits from Huerfano County and The United States Forest Service - San Carlos Ranger District. We ask that you please respect and care for the land this event is held on to help preserve the future of this event and to limit our environmental impact.
